Return to Hwaseong fortress

Hwaseong is one of the more popular attractions in Suwon- one you can learn more about its history, and how to get there, by checking out my previous blog post or checking out this site.

However, today I’m not here to give you a history lesson- I just want to share some newer pictures from an afternoon outing with two friends.

??????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????

Before our trek, we met for a meal near the fortress walls. We enjoyed a soup made with fermented soybean paste, similar to doenjang but a bit more potent, and noodle soup made with rich chicken stock.

I quite like this area- it’s older and has more character than much of ultra-modern urban Korea.

The steps leading up to the fortress wall.

Where’s my next adventure?!

    • It is! There’s no entrance fee just to walk around the fortress wall, but there is a small fee to enter the palace grounds (I don’t quite recall, as my first visit was on a free weekend during a festival. It’s under 7000 won for sure, and possibly even a mere 1000 won!) The palace complex is interesting, but if you’ve already seen Gyeongbokgung, Deoksugung, etc, you might not mind skipping it.
